
Revolutionary LGBTQ+ Advocate &
Intersectionality Scholar
Through her work in the local LGBTQ+ community, Shanay witnessed Philadelphia's largest racial demographic of LGBTQ families, those who are Black, are often overlooked by local non-profits and public organizations. Her mission is to bring quality programming, services, and supports into underserved communities while preserving the pride and dignity of all LGBTQ+ people in Philadelphia and beyond.
Shanay currently serves as the Assistant Director of Philadelphia Family Pride. Since Shanay has joined the organization, PFP has established community partnerships with local government organizations and other non-profits who serve LGBTQ+ communities of color. In 2022, Shanay and the PFP team organized the first LGBTQ+ centered Juneteenth event serving over 150 members of the community.
In 2011, Shanay published a Preliminary Evaluation of Cultural-Based Service-Learning. In 2020, Shanay published her first book: I.S.E.A.: An Introspective Exploration of Gender Identity, Biological Sex, Expression, & Attraction. She is currently conducting a study on the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality and how the impact identity formation for Black LGBTQ+ students who attend HBCUs.
